Coumarin in some cases caused an increase in liver enzymes above the normal range, even though they returned to their normal rates after stopping it.


Cinnamon supplements and liver damage

In one study, acute hepatitis was reported from taking herbal supplements containing a high amount of cinnamon.


A 40-year-old man took two herbal supplements containing cinnamon and fennel, and after about 4 months of taking these supplements, he developed jaundice, increased clotting time, increased liver enzymes and total bilirubin.

1. It increases the risk of developing cancer

Studies in animals such as rodents have shown that eating too much coumarin might increase the risk of some types of cancer in the lungs, liver, and kidneys.


But more human research needs to be done to see if the same relationship between coumarin and cancer applies to humans as well.


2. Causes mouth ulcers

Cinnamon contains cinnamaldehyde, a compound that may cause an allergic reaction when consumed in large quantities in some people, and in addition to mouth ulcers, other symptoms of cinnamaldehyde allergy include the following:


Swelling of the tongue or gums.

A burning or itching sensation in the mouth.

The appearance of white spots in the mouth.

3. It causes low blood sugar

Cinnamon is known to lower blood sugar, but eating too much cinnamon can lead to too much sugar hypoglycemia, which may lead to fatigue, dizziness, and possibly fainting.


Therefore, people who take diabetes medication should be careful not to eat large amounts of cinnamon.


4. It causes breathing problems

Ground cinnamon has a soft texture that makes it easy to accidentally inhale it, which can cause:
